Privacy Policy
🔒 The short version: Reflectalk does not record, store, or transmit your audio or any personal data. Everything stays on your device.
1. Introduction
Reflectalk ("we", "our", or "the app") is a mobile application that analyzes conversational tone in real time to help users reflect on and improve their communication. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.
By using Reflectalk, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
2. Data We Do NOT Collect
We want to be explicit about what Reflectalk does not do:
- No audio recording. The microphone is accessed only to analyze voice patterns in real time. Audio is processed locally and immediately discarded — it is never saved to the device or transmitted anywhere.
- No personal data. We do not collect names, email addresses, phone numbers, location data, or any identifying information.
- No audio transmission. Reflectalk processes audio locally on your device. Audio recordings and conversation content are never transmitted to our servers or any third party. Anonymous usage analytics may be collected only if you explicitly opt in — see Section 5.
- No account required. Reflectalk requires no sign-up, login, or account creation.
- No advertising or cross-app tracking. We do not use advertising IDs, ad networks, or behavioral tracking for commercial purposes.
- Analytics only with your consent. If you opt in, we collect anonymous usage data (feature usage, session counts) via PostHog, hosted in the EU. No audio, conversation content, or personal data is included. You can change this anytime in Settings → Privacy.
3. Microphone Permission
Reflectalk requests access to your device microphone solely to analyze vocal tone in real time. This permission is used only while you have an active session open in the app. The microphone is not accessed in the background.
Audio data is processed on-device using algorithms that detect vocal intensity and patterns. No audio is recorded, buffered beyond a few milliseconds for processing, or transmitted.
4. Local Data Storage
Reflectalk may store a session history on your device (e.g., tension scores and timestamps from past sessions). This data:
- Is stored only on your local device.
- Is never transmitted to any external server.
- Can be deleted at any time by uninstalling the app or clearing app data in your device settings.
5. Third-Party Services
If you consent to analytics, Reflectalk uses PostHog (EU servers, posthog.com/privacy) to collect anonymous, aggregated usage statistics. No audio, conversation content, or personally identifiable information is ever included. If you decline consent, no data is sent to any external service and the app functions entirely offline.
PostHog assigns a random pseudonymous identifier (UUID) to each app installation to count unique users. This identifier is generated locally on your device, contains no personal information, and cannot be used to identify you without physical access to your device. It is not linked to your name, email, or any other personal data.
6. Your Rights (GDPR)
If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA) or United Kingdom, you have the following rights regarding your data:
- Right to withdraw consent. You can withdraw your analytics consent at any time in Settings → Privacy. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of processing before withdrawal.
- Right to access. Since we only collect anonymous, non-identifiable usage data (if you opted in), we cannot link it to you personally. You may contact us to learn what categories of anonymous data are collected and how they are used.
- Right to erasure. Local session data can be deleted at any time by clearing app data or uninstalling the app. Since analytics data is fully anonymous and cannot be linked to any individual, it cannot be selectively deleted — however, you can stop future collection at any time by revoking consent in Settings → Privacy.
- Right to object. You may object to processing of your data at any time by declining or revoking analytics consent.
- Right to lodge a complaint. You have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at privacy@reflectalk.com.
7. Data Retention
Session history stored on your device is kept until you delete it manually or uninstall the app. Anonymous analytics data sent to PostHog (only with your consent) is retained for a maximum of 1 year, after which it is automatically deleted. No personally identifiable information is ever included in analytics data.
8. Permissions Used
The following Android permissions are used by Reflectalk. Each is explained below in plain language.
Microphone — RECORD_AUDIO
Used to analyze vocal tone and conversational tension in real time during active sessions. Audio is processed entirely on-device and is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. The microphone is not accessed in the background.
Notifications — POST_NOTIFICATIONS
Used to deliver optional tension alerts and session reminders. You can grant or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings. No notification content is linked to personal data.
Vibration — VIBRATE
Used to provide discreet haptic feedback when the tension score reaches a threshold during an active session. This permission does not expose any personal data.
Internet — INTERNET
Required only if you opt in to anonymous analytics (PostHog, EU servers). If you decline analytics consent, the app functions entirely offline and no data is transmitted. The core tension detection never requires internet access.
9. Children's Privacy
Reflectalk is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any information from children. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the app, please contact us so we can take appropriate action.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, the "Last updated" date at the top of this page will reflect the change. Continued use of the app after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
